Discover all the techniques used in sound design and their specificities in accordance with different kinds of production (documentary films, fictions, TV or radio commercials).

Work with all the IMC departments.

Discover post-synchronization with the actors of the acting department; sound design and sound mixing with the directors of the directing department; a whole conception for the sound of animation films with Anim/Fx students. Regular partnerships during the year, for example with France Bleu Cotentin (a local radio station), will allow you to practice in real life conditions.

Discover sound design from an artistic and technical point of view. The objective is to make the student independent but also to work in groups with directors.

Sound recording

On a film set, in radio reportage or in a studio, sound recordingp is essential. A sound-designer must know how to choose a microphone and where to place it. These choices can determine the final quality of a production. Multiplying experimentation and filming conditions, the students will learn to anticipate, to avoid mistakes and to improve their practice.

Sound editing, sound effects.

The editing of live show is often insufficient to recreate all the shades of the sound world. Sound editing and sound effects make actors and accessories alive. The banging of car doors, the rustling of materials, the resonance of steps of a character, wind or rain.

Sound design

Sound design is not about creating music or ambience. It is playing with sound matters to give to the soundtrack its distinctive color. Sound design respects, sublimates and puts together all stages of the sound post-production. It creates the sonorous world of a movie. It shows emotions and specific atmospheres.

Sound mixing

The last artistic choices: All the elements of the post-production are brought together to create the soundtrack illusion. Live shows, post-synchronized dialogues, off screen voices, sound effects, sound design and music are different elements but they become one after the sound mixing

A close partnership with the directors of the anim/fx department gives opportunities to the student to create a whole soundtrack.
